Counseling and Spiritual Direction

with Dr. Bill Kerley

There is perhaps no more important decision than whom to choose as a counselor, teacher, guide and therapist.

I have been in practice since 1978 and hold advanced degrees in both psychology and theology. I am both a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a certified Spiritual Director.

My commitment in this important work if for those who utilize my services to experience “customer satisfaction.” If you don’t, I will help you find someone who will.

The work of counseling is not to change a person, for that is impossible as we are born with a specific personality. Counseling can powerfully guide us into who we are meant to be. It is the work of discovering and becoming your true self who has been there all along.

If you would be interested in seeing me for counseling. I will ask you to complete a Life History Questionnaire. You can download a copy here. It is also linked at the top of this website.

My interest in doing the work I do began when I read while in graduate school, the following words by Carl Jung: “Among all my patients in the second half of life - that is to say,  over thirty-five - there has not been one whose problem in the last resort was not that of finding a religious outlook on life. It is safe to say that every one of them fell ill because he had lost what the living religions of every age have given to their followers, and none of them has been really healed who did not regain his religious outlook. This of course has nothing whatever to do with a particular creed or membership of a church.”

In my counseling work I seek to help individuals and couples resolve and solve the difficulties one inevitably encounters in life. In offering spiritual direction I collaborate with individuals to assist in the process of delving into the “what matters most?” kind of issues and questions. Here there is not so much a problem or set of difficulties to work through as there is a journey to take.

If such work is on your personal agenda, I would consider it a privilege to make this journey with you.
